Recovering from yesterday.

Wednesday, 28th December |
Immediately post-Christmas, and it started quiet at work. Yesterday was fairly light, certainly on the ingest side - and also for tape copying, until libary delivered a stack of tapes.
Not that I noticed this, since I was on Tapes and Breaks, yet again. Nothing much to say about that, I managed to get all loaded through 18:00 today, which is always my target for this shift.
Today, though, was different. The commercials and promo troops were back after their Christmas holiday - or some of them were. We had probably in the order of 120 commercials, and the same of promos delivered in the afternoon and evening - too late to get all done before end of shift. And, at that, some needed promos were not supplied...

Today, I finally rewired the Brother laser printer, using the right-angled cables I've had sitting around for a couple of weeks now. And they work - not that I doubted they would.
When I ordered the Visioneer Strobe sheet-fed scanner before Christmas, I complained about ABN Amro's payment website, and it's use of Javascript. I should also have complained about Visioneer's site - when you enter your name and address, they insist on having a State/County, even if, as in my case, there isn't one. And they onpass that data to ABN Amro - so that your Visa card fails to authorise because the supplied address doesn't match their records. At least I think that's what has happened, because my order is still showing as "Awaiting Payment". So I sent e-mail, saying "Fix it by next Friday, the 6th, or cancel it. And if you cancel, I'll never buy from you again. Nor will I recommend you to anyone." We'll see if that gets then off the dime.
And their site is slow, glacially so. Nor is there a button that says "Cancel this order". On the basis of this site, if you want to set up a Web shop, don't use the osCommerce suite.

It's cold and wet out - not cold and frosty, just wet. So I'm staying in, in the warm and dry. Or it should be warm, but the central heating isn't keeping the house as warm as I'd like. But it is dry, the work on the conservatory roof has stopped that leak.

New Year's Eve |
At work, a short shift, but earlies - ugh...

New Year's Day |
And another...
But after that I got the chance to enjoy the New Year's Day Concert from Vienna, with the Vienna Philharmonic performing the music of the Strauss family ,under the baton of guest conductor Mariss Jansens, in the Golden Hall of the Musikverein. And it was the usual enjoyable romp, with - since this year is the 250th anniversary of his birth - some of Mozart's music thrown in. The actual birthday is January 23rd, I believe.
We're playing host to family again this weekend, and as a result I'm paying off karma at an accelerated rate. Jane's Dad and Aunt are both annoying, for different reasons. Dad, because of his Alzheimer's, is regressing by the day. He was always pedantically irritating, refusing to listen even when he was manifestly wrong. Now he's worse, with monomaniacal intensity, and total paranoia and dependence on Jane's Mum.
Dora, because she hasn't had to please anyone but herself sice her mother died, is just as irritating, because she doesn't listen, and doesn't believe you, even if she does hear.
All three of them can't sit to listen to music without talking over it. And I can't turn up the volume - Jane tells me off if I do. Henpecked? Moi...?
