Monday, 18th May

New shift fortnight starts today - nights. Boo, hiss! But I have next week off, so it's not too bad. And overtime Wednesday.

Tried to deliver a bunch of stuff to the auction house, ahead of their next auction on June 4th. Tried being the operative word. I got there at 17:10 - 10 minutes too late. They had closed at 5. Drat! I'll try again tomorrow.

Tuesday, 19th May

Second attempt at the auction house delivery - successful this time. I came back with a few things that the staff thought wouldn't be worth trying to sell, but the majority was acceptable to them - their idea being that there's no point offering items that are known (to them) non-sellers, and which would only cost money in fees is submitted. I confess to seeing their point, much though I'd like to see the back of all of it.

Wednesday, 20th May

Overtime today.

But first another trip to the auction house - this time with furniture. This was pounced on with glee, so I have hopes.

By the way, our first foray into selling by auction netted over UKP500. I confess to pleased surprise - I was expecting less than that.

Thursday, 21st May

Night shifts suck. But I got a lot done - last night, the overtime shift, saw me clear 32 tape jobs, which is good. Now there's just the weekend before my week off. Albeit next week is half-term, when all the schools have time off.

Friday, 22nd May

Anoher delivery to the auction house today, on the last day for submissions ahead of the auction on June 4th.. And apparently, books don't sell well. Most books, that is. Some categories - children's books, and books about sport, particularly boxing and football do sell. So we may try eBay - I'll have Sarah do that.

Sunday, 24th May

Not much to be said about work these last 2 days - what there was got done. And that not much.

One of my colleagues got married yesterday, and the evening party should have been quite well attended. Certainly Cookie was handing out invites wholesale. I don't do parties of that ilk - not much, anyway - so I passed, with apologies to Cookie and his new other-half. I also cited, as an excuse, "Someone with a degree of nous will be needed, to keep a service running" - there being no staff in the Ingest area last night. Freelances, yes - staff no.

Good thing, too. Otherwise a job that needed a repair wouldn't have got done, because no-one else on site had even a remote idea how our tape library works, and we needed a master tape. The librarian, of course, had gone home at the end of his shift. But I found it. Yaay, me.

And there'll likely be more of this - the weekend libraian shift is being abolished, so the librarians will work a 5-day week in future.
